Essays in IELTS and PTE will be positively reward for the range of grammar. It is better to attempt to use sophisticated language and have minor errors, than to write a perfect error free essay. An essay which has no errors but is all in short simple sentence would score a 5 for grammar.

Remember, native speakers, your teachers, journalist are not perfect in their first drafts, but they express ideas well. This is what the IELTS examiner looks for and the PTE AI marking tries to imitate. For high level candidates the examiner looks at the type of errors and considers ‘is the error because they were writing under stress and so this error is like a native speaker’ or is this a ‘habitual, repeated error because they don’t have know.’

It’s a waste of time to write your own essays. Templates are the fastest way to pass. – partially true.

You must write an original essay to score 7 or above IELTS. A really good template with a lucky topic could get you to a 6.5 or with an unlucky topic a 5. The IELTS examiners will know when you are using a template so even the best ones with zero errors will only get a maximum of 6.5. If you are in a hurry and need a low score, a template is an option.

The PTE AI marking system is pretty old and out-of-date, but even the best template eventually gets detected and is scaled down too. For instance, the skills score gives you a 79 for an error free well-structured essay but when compared to thousands of essays that were almost identical and given that many of these test-takers only got 45 in other parts of the test, your score is way scaled down.

Both tests, when they detect section which are copied will remove them from your essay and not mark that section (so all those memorised fancy phrases will affect your score negatively).

Several times, I’ve moved a candidates score from 6 to 8 in a month by ‘unteaching’ templates and telling them-” if you can speak at an 8 you should be able to write at an 8. You just need a different perspective.”
