How SID Visa Streamlines Hiring and Sponsorship

Having been updated almost 2 months ago, lets go over the new Skills In Demand (SID) Visa, in simple terms for applicants and employers. In a nutshell; The Skills in Demand Visa (subclass 482) has replaced the Temporary Skills Shortage (TSS) Visa are offering three distinct streams to better serve employers and skilled workers.

The Specialist Skills Stream is for highly skilled professionals in various occupations, with an income threshold of AUD 135,000+ and fast-tracked processing in 7 days. The Core Skills Stream caters to workers in roles listed on the new Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL), with an income threshold of AUD 73,150+ and a median processing time of 2 weeks. The Labour Agreement Stream retains the existing framework from the TSS visa, with updates pending law amendments.

For employers, the SID Visa means access to a broader talent pool, reduced work experience requirements, faster hiring, and a clear pathway to permanent residence for sponsored employees. Stay informed about your sponsorship obligations and explore the benefits of the SID Visa for your business.

The SID Visa offers significant advantages for both employers and skilled workers. Employers can sponsor candidates across a wider range of occupations under the Specialist Skills or Core Skills streams. The work experience requirement has been lowered from two years to just one year of full-time (or equivalent part-time) work within the last five years. Expedited visa processing means your sponsored employee could start in their role within days or weeks of visa lodgement. Additionally, all SID visa holders now have a clear path to permanent residency through the Employer Nomination Program, a significant shift from the previous program where some sponsored visa holders did not have a direct route to permanent residency.
