New Pathway for Talented Indian Professionals: The MATES Stream
The Australian Government has launched the Mobility Arrangements for Talented Early-professionals Scheme (MATES) under the Subclass 403 visa. This initiative offers Indian graduates and early-career professionals the chance to live and work in Australia for up to two years, addressing skill shortages in key sectors like renewable energy, engineering, and AI. The MATES stream aims to attract talented individuals to help meet Australia’s growing demand for skilled workers.
ligibility Requirements
To be eligible for the MATES stream, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Age: Applicants must be between 18 and 30 years of age at the time of application.
- Nationality: Only Indian nationals holding a valid passport issued by the Republic of India are eligible.
- Qualification: Applicants must hold a qualification equivalent to an Australian Bachelor’s degree (AQF Level 7) or higher in one of the specified industries. The qualification must have been conferred by an educational institution listed by the Australian Minister in a separate legislative instrument.
- English Proficiency: For IELTS, the required test scores are an overall band score of at least 6, with a minimum score of 5 in each individual test component. Equivalent test scores from other recognised English language tests, such as Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) or Occupational English Test (OET), are also accepted.
- Targeted Industries: The applicant’s qualification must be in one of the following industries:
Renewable energy
Mining
Engineering
Information and communications technology (ICT)
Artificial intelligence (AI)
Financial technology (FinTech)
Agricultural technology (AgTech)
How to Apply
To apply for the MATES stream, applicants must participate in the visa pre-application process, which includes registration and a ballot process. Those who meet the eligibility requirements, including having a qualifying degree, relevant skills, and language proficiency, will be invited to apply for the Subclass 403 (Temporary Work) visa.
